About The Position

The Air Force Nondestructive Inspection Office (AFNDIO) is seeking a Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a technology transition analyst role. The selected candidate will serve as an SME in aerospace systems NDI and aircraft maintenance. This position will support the AF NDI Office by performing a variety of NDI-related functions, providing NDI analysis, and applying basic project management knowledge as requested. This position is located at Tinker AFB, OK, and telework is not available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience OR seven (7) years of experience in the NDI field having previously held Level 2 or Level 3 certification(s) IAW NAS 410, ASNT, SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent) (P2).
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of six years of experience OR a master’s degree plus a minimum of five years of experience OR 10 years of experience in the field of NDI having previously held Level 2 or Level 3 certification(s) IAW NAS 410, ASNT, SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent) (P3).
  • Experience leading projects and programs (P2).
  • Knowledge of NDI lab requirements, programs, and equipment management practices (P2).
  • Proficient with fluorescent penetrant (methods c and d) and eddy current (surface scan and bolt holes rotary scan) inspection methods (P2).
  • Technical writing skills (P2).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and able to complete required tasks with minimal assistance (P2).
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat (P2).
  • Self-motivated, independent working with impeccable judgement (P2).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to obtain secret clearance within one year of hire.
  • Willing to travel (up to eight (8) weeks a year), as needed.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing an AF field NDI laboratory (served as NCOIC, Section Chief, Lab Supervisor, etc.) (P3).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skillset (P3).

  • Prior military service or DoD civilian experience, particularly with the U.S. Air Force (P2).
  • Moderate experience in manipulating 3D Scanner data (point cloud) using CAD/SolidWorks (P3).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an SME in aerospace systems NDI and aircraft maintenance.
  • Support the AF NDI Office by performing a variety of NDI-related functions.
  • Provide NDI analysis.
  • Apply basic project management knowledge as requested.
  • Perform NDI process controls and management of the process control program.
  • Document detailed inspection results.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Draft drawings from CAD and 3D models (P3 level).
  • Manipulate 3D Scanner data (point cloud) using CAD/SolidWorks (P3 level).
  • Document experience hours that meet or exceed NAS 410 Level 2 formal training and experience requirements in the five traditional methods (penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, ultrasonic, and radiography) (P3 level).
