Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university or equivalent
  • Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license
  • Meet the applicable requirements of a “highly qualified” teacher defined by ODEW.
  • Embrace high-performance standards (e.g., engagement, proficiency, resilience, etc.)
  • Maintain a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment
  • Active Listening, Collaboration with stakeholders, creative problem solving, and good time management skills

  • PK teacher requires dual licensure for Special Education requirements: Intervention Specialist & PK-3.

Responsibilities

  • Plan educational experiences for pupils, aligning teaching strategies with learning styles, assembling and organizing resources, proctoring mandated testing activities, and directing learning activities toward curriculum goals.
  • Develop lesson plans consistent with learning standards and district curriculum goals, ensuring student lists, lesson plans, and teaching materials are readily available for substitute teachers. Lesson plans should include objectives, procedures for attaining objectives, a plan for evaluation, and time allotments.
  • Employ varied styles of teaching and evaluation to facilitate student understanding, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, give assistance to all pupils in their studies, demonstrate competent knowledge of subject matter, and develop methods and incorporate available materials and equipment for the level of student being taught.
  • Ensure all assigned classroom time is utilized toward the fulfillment of academic goals by following a daily time schedule, providing a highly structured learning environment, providing leadership for best practices and academic standards, using formative and summative assessments to track student progress, developing mutually respectful relationships with colleagues, helping ensure the accuracy and privacy of confidential information, maintaining a professional appearance and acceptable attendance record, maintaining open/effective communications, keeping current with emergency preparedness and response procedures, giving careful attention to the learning environment, and developing, communicating, and maintaining consistent classroom discipline strategies.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, fellow teachers, administration, the school community, and specialized district or county personnel.
  • Become acquainted with the parents of their students and contact them in matters concerning their child’s welfare.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Keep academic, attendance, and disciplinary records on each student and make all reports as directed by the principal or superintendent.
  • Adhere to and support all policies of the Board of Education and administrative rules and regulations.
  • Become familiar with, and follow the instructions outlined in the teacher handbook.
  • Attend faculty meetings, accept homeroom or duty assignments, and supervise assemblies during the school day.
  • Be punctual and present at school and at assigned class periods.
  • Be responsible for the careful use of all school property and equipment entrusted to them.
  • Provide for his/her own professional growth through internal/external professional development that is aligned to the district’s goals and individual IPDPs.
  • Perform other duties and/or requests as may be directed by the administration.
