About The Position

This 10-week internship program offers a set hourly rate of $41.50 an hour and a potential pathway to full-time opportunities with Fannie Mae. This position has multiple openings and may be based in our Reston, VA (Reston Town Center) and Plano, TX (Granite Park) offices. The program provides hands-on experience as a real contributor working on projects and business challenges that help shape the future of housing finance. Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Academic achievement (preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Computer Sciences or Information Technology major in current degree program
  • Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Sciences or Information Technology with an expected graduation date of Spring 2028.
  • Other technical majors will be considered based on a candidate’s technical experience and/or aptitude.
  • Understanding software development and programming language such as Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python
  • AWS/Cloud knowledge
  • Ability to write code
  • Experience with databases, software design and development in a test-driven environment
  • Familiarity with AI tools and technologies
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to contribute to a team atmosphere
  • Self-starter, strong business acumen, and results focused
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, and implementation of software, technology, and business processes.
  • Implement modern technologies and maintain tools using industry-standard best practices.
  • Apply technical foundation and process-driven mindset to deliver innovative solutions that support customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to improve processes, enhance productivity, manage risk, and drive innovation.
  • Think creatively about how technology can create value while applying responsible and ethical practices.
  • Strengthen professional skills, deepen understanding of the business and the role of technology, and build lasting connections with peers, colleagues, and leaders.
  • Build AI-powered document classification pipeline, improving document-type accuracy, and accelerating AI fraud detection.
  • Produce clean, efficient software solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Integrate software components and third-party applications.
  • Provide support to production applications, troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing software.
  • Recommend and execute improvements to both the software and development process.
  • Create scalable, automated solutions to support business needs.
  • Gather and evaluate user feedback.
  • Write and maintain tests to ensure solutions are compatible and retain stability.
  • Manage Data platforms and tools, monitor production logs, analyze data to determine root cause, and coordinate with users to triage issues.
  • Support data protection and governance, ensuring sensitive data is governed throughout the technology ecosystem and prevent data loss.
  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams for key software applications.
  • Design and maintain JIRA service desks.
