Technology Product Manager

The Baldwin GroupTampa, FL

About The Position

The Technology Product Manager is a senior individual-contributor role responsible for owning the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of key technology products that enable Baldwin’s insurance brokerage lifecycle (e.g., client/colleague portals, policy administration tools, internal brokerage platforms). Operating with advanced professional judgment, this role leads cross‑functional teams to discover customer and colleague needs, define outcome‑oriented solutions, and deliver incremental value through modern product management practices. Drawing on leading product management standards from accredited programs, the Technology Product Manager applies data‑driven decision making, structured discovery, and iterative delivery to align product outcomes with business, operational, and client goals.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of end‑to‑end product lifecycle management, from discovery and definition through delivery, measurement, and iteration, consistent with globally recognized product management curricula.
  • Ability to articulate and maintain a clear product vision and strategy, tying product decisions to business outcomes, operational efficiency, client value, and risk management.
  • Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative discovery: framing problems, conducting interviews/workshops, synthesizing insights, mapping journeys and processes, and translating findings into hypotheses and requirements.
  • Proficiency in writing high‑quality epics, features, and user stories, including non‑functional requirements, that support iterative delivery and clear testing.
  • Ability to define meaningful product KPIs and diagnostic metrics; experience partnering with Analytics to interpret product usage, operational performance, and experiment results to guide prioritization and design.
  • Solid understanding of web/SaaS product concepts (e.g., multi‑tier architectures, integrations, APIs, roles/permissions, environments) sufficient to engage deeply with Engineering, question trade‑offs, and make informed decisions.
  • Working knowledge of insurance brokerage concepts (e.g., client lifecycle, policy placement, renewals, servicing) and how they are represented in technology platforms, or demonstrated ability to develop this expertise quickly.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders, present options and trade‑offs succinctly, and manage disagreement constructively.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams without direct authority, keeping work focused on outcomes and delivering on commitments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives and dependencies concurrently, balancing short‑term delivery with medium‑term strategic work.
  • Comfort operating in Agile environments and collaborating closely with Scrum Masters, Engineers, QA, and other partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, data/analytics, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience consistent with a senior professional role.
  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in product management, product analysis, or closely related roles (e.g., business analysis, technical product ownership), including direct ownership of roadmaps and backlogs for business applications or SaaS products.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with technology products in insurance, brokerage, or financial services, or in other highly regulated, B2B/B2B2C environments preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with Agile/Scrum and related toolsets (e.g., Jira or Azure DevOps for backlog management; Confluence/SharePoint for documentation) preferred.
  • Familiarity with product management frameworks and practices from accredited or widely recognized programs (e.g., Cornell/eCornell Technical Product Management, Pragmatic Institute, AIPMM, Product School, university‑backed product management or digital product programs) preferred.
  • Experience defining and tracking product KPIs, running small experiments, and using data/analytics tools (e.g., product analytics, BI dashboards, Excel/Sheets) to inform decisions preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Pragmatic Institute, AIPMM, CSPO/PSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or university‑backed product management certificates) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and continuously refine vision, strategy, and measurable objectives for assigned products, ensuring clear alignment with Baldwin’s brokerage strategy and operating model.

  • Partner with Analytics and business teams to translate behavioral data, incident trends, and operational metrics into actionable product insights and hypotheses.
  • Translate problems and opportunities into well‑formed epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria and edge cases suitable for Agile delivery teams.
  • Collaborate daily with Engineering, Architecture, UX, and Operations to shape feasible solution options, clarify trade‑offs, and ensure designs adhere to technical, security, and data standards.
  • Own the product backlog for assigned domains: prioritize based on customer impact, risk, regulatory needs, dependencies, and capacity, using recognized prioritization frameworks (e.g., RICE, WSJF, value vs. effort).
  • Act as product lead within Agile ceremonies (e.g., planning, backlog refinement, reviews), ensuring work items are ready, understood, and anchored to defined outcomes.
  • Oversee functional validation for key features: define test scenarios, support test case design, review results, and accept/reject work based on agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate release readiness for assigned changes, including communications, training inputs, support playbooks, and monitoring plans; ensure controlled rollout and early‑life support.
  • Define and track product KPIs and success metrics (e.g., adoption, task completion, error and incident rates, cycle times, NPS/CSAT) in line with data‑driven practices promoted by accredited product curricula.
  • Analyze product performance and user feedback, run and interpret small experiments where appropriate (e.g., A/B tests, pilot cohorts), and adjust roadmap and backlog based on evidence.
  • Serve as primary product contact for designated business areas (e.g., Client Service, Operations, Placement, Finance), managing expectations and aligning on priorities and trade‑offs.
  • Facilitate cross‑functional decision making, presenting clear options, impacts, and recommendations to leaders and governance forums (e.g., change committees, steering groups).
  • Support change adoption by partnering with Training, Communications, and local leaders to embed new capabilities into processes and roles.
  • Provide peer coaching and informal mentoring to Associate and Technology Product Analysts on discovery methods, story writing, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement.
