Technology Partner, AI Operations & Responsible AI

TMX GroupToronto, ON
Hybrid

About The Position

The Technology Partner, AI Operations & Responsible AI is accountable for the operating process and first-line controls that allow TMX to build and deploy AI responsibly and at pace. The role owns the end-to-end AI operating process, from intake through approval, deployment, and ongoing operation, and ensures alignment across the first-line and second-line functions that touch each use case, including product teams, legal, procurement, information security, and privacy. Operating as a first-line function (1b), the role owns the Responsible AI framework and policy lifecycle, AI risk policy and model risk management, the data governance function, and dev-tool governance. It runs the process and owns first-line controls; it is distinct from the independent second-line governance functions (enterprise risk management, model validation, compliance), which retain independent challenge and oversight. The role coordinates closely with those functions but does not replace them. The role reports to the Chief AI & Data Officer.

Requirements

  • AI operations and governance experience is critical: demonstrated experience standing up or running an AI operating and control process end to end.
  • 8+ years across AI/ML, technology risk, model risk, or data governance, including hands-on exposure to AI/ML in production.
  • Working knowledge of model risk management and Responsible AI frameworks; able to operationalize policy, not only author it.
  • Strong data governance background: lineage, privacy, classification, data quality, and data policy, with experience leading a data governance team.
  • Proven ability to orchestrate across functions (product, legal, procurement, information security, privacy, risk) and keep stakeholders aligned and informed.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling and the associated IP and security considerations.
  • Experience operating a first-line control or operating function in a regulated environment, with a clear understanding of the first-line / second-line boundary.
  • Able to balance control with delivery pace; pragmatic and enabling rather than blocking.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain AI risk to non-technical executives and the board.
  • Degree in a relevant quantitative, technical, legal, or risk discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the end-to-end AI operating process: intake, qualification, control review, approval, deployment, and ongoing operation of AI use cases.
  • Acts as the orchestration point across first-line and second-line stakeholders (product teams, legal, procurement, information security, privacy, enterprise risk), driving each use case to a clear outcome.
  • Keeps all stakeholders informed and moving, including the business units awaiting the outcome of the intake and approval process, so use cases progress predictably and do not stall between functions.
  • Runs the operating cadence and reporting that gives the function, and the business, visibility into where each request sits and what it needs to advance.
  • Maintains and improves the operating model and controls as the AI estate scales.
  • Owns the Responsible AI framework, policy lifecycle, and ethical standards for AI across TMX.
  • Maintains AI risk policy and keeps it current with the regulatory environment and the function's deployment footprint.
  • Owns first-line model risk management: model inventory, risk-tiering, control expectations, and ongoing monitoring of models in use.
  • Coordinates with independent model validation and second-line risk so the independent-challenge boundary is clear and defensible.
  • Owns the data governance function, with a data governance team reporting into the role.
  • Owns data governance policy and its operation across the AI estate: lineage, privacy, classification, data quality, access, and data policy.
  • Establishes data ownership and stewardship, and ensures data used for use cases and model development is governed, classified, and trusted.
  • Partners with Data Infrastructure on the technical implementation and enforcement of data controls.
  • Owns dev-tool governance: the three-tier model, repository allowlist, and management of intellectual-property gaps in AI-assisted development.
  • Embeds controls into the delivery flow in partnership with AI Product & Delivery, enabling pace without compromising safety.
  • Prepares the function for internal audit, regulatory, and board-level scrutiny of AI, and owns the evidence and artifacts that demonstrate control.
