The Hematopathology Service within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Technologist II/III to perform preliminary review of bone marrow and tissue specimens. This role involves close collaboration with various laboratories (Histology, IHC, Cytogenetics, Molecular, Flow) within DPLM to coordinate testing. The technologist will utilize hematopathology algorithms, test ordering guidelines, reporting guidelines, and practice information. They will review requisitions and order entry orders, verify specimen accuracy, and enter data into the computer. A key responsibility is performing morphological review on bone marrow aspirate and biopsy specimens, tissue specimens, and peripheral blood smears, correlating findings with clinical history. The role also includes creating concise and accurate reports using hematopathology templates for review by a hematopathologist, independently retrieving pertinent medical history and laboratory results, and determining the necessity of ancillary testing. The technologist may assist with placing ancillary orders as requested by the pathologist and will maintain complete, accurate, and organized records. Results will be prepared for analysis, entered into the computer with minimal supervision, and documents will be created in a neat, accurate, and well-formatted manner.
