The Workshop Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical and/or electrical aspects of mining equipment and components, according to defined specifications. Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in a relevant field (mechanical/electrical) or equivalent experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience with mining equipment.
  • Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical problems on mining equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft software.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied hours as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Sandvik equipment or products is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the scope of work within time constraints to meet established delivery goals.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper functioning and determine defects and failures.
  • Adjust equipment and repair/replace defective components or systems according to the scope of work to return equipment to original manufacturing specifications.
  • Identify additional repairs, compile estimates for parts and labor, and communicate them to the supervisor.
  • Verify the proper functioning of repaired equipment.
  • Accurately complete time sheets, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists.
  • Build good relationships with the workshop team and internal/external customers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, customers, products, and technical best practices.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.
  • Comply with safety policies and relevant government, customer, or industry regulations or requirements.
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting any unsafe work habits, workplace incidents, and/or near misses.
  • Perform a 'Take 5' risk assessment before each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain an orderly workplace and ensure compliance with rule requirements.
  • Participate in environmental, health, and safety training.
  • Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for each task.
