The Technician functions as a skilled-level technician capable of performing diagnoses and repairs across all areas, while also specializing in particular repair areas. This role involves working efficiently and accurately according to dealership and factory standards, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing necessary repairs. The technician is responsible for communicating with the parts department, saving and tagging warranty parts, and examining vehicles for additional safety or service work. They must communicate promptly with the service advisor regarding any changes to the repair plan or timeline. Documentation of all work performed and recommended is required, and road testing vehicles or referring them to a test technician is part of the job. The technician is expected to participate in manufacturer-sponsored training, stay updated on technical bulletins, and supervise apprentice technicians as assigned. Maintaining a clean shop area, accounting for dealership-owned tools, and complying with federal, state, and local regulations (like hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know) are also essential. Safety is paramount, requiring safe operation of all tools and equipment and immediate reporting of any safety issues to management. Additionally, ensuring customers' cars are kept clean and reporting any changes to the vehicle's appearance or condition to the service advisor is crucial.
