About The Position

This role involves performing routine on-site installation, preventative maintenance, and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment and products. The Technician will ensure communication equipment systems perform at the highest standard of service for customers. Responsibilities include level 1 maintenance, restoral actions, and providing intermediate-level technical support within a 24x7 shift environment.

Requirements

  • Vocational training or equivalent technical education, ideally in the field of Electronic Communications.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to work in a 24x7 shift environment (days/nights) and be available for on-call/call-in responsibilities.
  • Basic working knowledge of Satellite Earth Station technologies relating to Teleport Operations.
  • General knowledge of ancillary plant systems such as HVAC, UPS, electrical switchgear and generating systems.
  • Capable of working on various ground station communications systems and performing replacement of major assemblies.
  • General understanding of RF theory and basic electronics.
  • Ability to determine proper methods of testing equipment and RF/IF systems chains.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and services, mainly related to Satellite Communications and Teleport Operations.
  • Good organizational, multi-tasking, and team player skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • General PC skills and proficiency in use of “Office Suite” software.
  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee) due to ITAR/EAR regulations.
  • Close vision (20 inches or less), distance vision (20 feet or more), color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet (to include outdoor 3-story antenna systems).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • General understanding of antenna drive-systems, high power amplifiers, Up/Down converters, fiber optic sub-systems, baseband equipment consisting of modems, multiplexers, broadband, IP technologies and video technologies/systems.
  • General working knowledge of standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, synthesized generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, bit error rate test sets.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine on-site installation, preventative maintenance, and routine repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment and products.
  • Ensure system performance of communications equipment delivers the highest standard of service to customers.
  • Perform level 1 maintenance restoral actions.
  • Provide technical support at an intermediate level in a 24x7 shift.
  • Test and successfully turn-up new services by performing installation and configuration of equipment, associated wiring/cabling, and administrative requirements.
  • Perform basic preventative/periodic maintenance checks of ground station equipment and associated sub-systems.
  • Provide routine level 1 maintenance including switching of redundant equipment, performing power resets, and verifying equipment configuration.
  • Participate in training for level 2 maintenance (removal, replacement, and configuration of equipment).
  • Perform basic components of emergency restoral procedures for ground station equipment (antennas, up- and downlink systems, baseband and video equipment).
  • Monitor conditions of commercial services and terrestrial facilities, including system alarms, station plant, and facility subsystems.
  • Investigate and report equipment deficiencies related to reliability or efficiency.
  • Escalate open issues to senior technicians or operations staff.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and updates for service status changes, maintenance, and fault/repair/restoral.
  • Monitor Telemetry, Tracking and Command, commercial services, and terrestrial facilities.
  • Support IP and Baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB and Broadband technology platforms) and video systems.
  • Identify inefficient operations processes and unreliable equipment or subsystems and make recommendations.
  • Prepare and review documentation, reports, and updates for service status changes, maintenance, and fault/repair/restoral.
