About The Position

Under the guidance and direction of the Senior Coordinator, in the Stormwater Science and Guidance Program, this position implements project needs and monitoring of integrated stormwater infrastructure. This includes the collection of water quality and flow data, data organization, reporting, equipment installation, identifying and rectifying maintenance issues, conducting site inspections, and construction oversight. This position conducts specialized technical data management, evaluation, and quality control for a variety of projects. This position works to solve problems and complete tasks in a manner that is flexible, innovative and can deliver on multiple initiatives in a fast and dynamic team environment.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in water resources, environmental sciences or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in environmental monitoring, data QA/QC, data analysis, technical and non-technical report writing.
  • Experience in stormwater and groundwater quality and quantity monitoring
  • Experience with different types of monitoring equipment (continuous flow and data loggers, autosamplers, water quality sondes)
  • Experience working with and manipulating large water quality and quantity data sets
  • Solid understanding of watershed processes and stormwater management
  • Field experience with water quality and flow monitoring
  • Experience with troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment and general fieldwork issues
  • Experience in water quality and quantity data collection, handling, and organizing a database
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Experience in statistical analysis of water quality and quantity data
  • Strong skills in writing technical reports, fact sheets, and bulletins
  • Effective coordination skills including working on project teams
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with water resources modelling, GIS, data processing software or database
  • knowledge of Access/WISKI/GIS
  • Experience with other types of monitoring activities such as surveying, GIS mapping, urban vegetation assessments or collection of climate data is beneficial.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hydrologic and water quality field monitoring including the installation, operation, and maintenance of sampling and monitoring equipment such as flow loggers, automated water samplers, flow meters, water quality probes, temperature loggers, and meteorological equipment;
  • Conduct low impact development and green infrastructure inspections and data tracking for innovative stormwater facilities
  • Prepare and plan for field activities in collaboration with program staff by preparing supplies and equipment and conducting initial equipment testing
  • Conduct data quality assurance and quality control using an established protocol: this includes adjusting data, interpreting results, troubleshooting, and critically reviewing program data
  • Perform basic statistical analysis to summarize results and develop conclusions on performance
  • Prepare data for inclusion into technical reports for the technical community
  • Work collaboratively with CVC staff, Steering Committees and External Partners.
  • Other duties and tasks as appropriate to the position
