About The Position

This position provides excellent client services through support and assistance to the Development Services division. This position requires interaction and communication with internal and external clients, reviewing minor pre-development, permit and development applications, and responding to general public inquiries on CVC policies and regulation watershed-wide.

Requirements

  • University degree in Land Use or Environmental Planning or a related field (Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering)
  • 1-year related experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of provincial planning legislation including the Planning Act, Conservation Authorities Act and Environmental Assessment Act
  • Knowledge of the planning process – including watershed planning and natural hazard management principles
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent teamwork and client centric customer service skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to work in a collaborative work environment with a passion for sharing knowledge and ideas with others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public

Responsibilities

  • Provide formal comments on minor permit and development applications based on CVC policies, regulation and provincial policies
  • Attend sites and provide preliminary comments on minor permit and development applications during pre-consultation
  • Review and provide comments on minor proposed development
  • Conduct site visits with technical staff to confirm feature limits and what additional information may be required to inform a decision
  • Determine if proposed works require a permit
  • Review of proposed minor works through permit applications
  • Conduct site visits to ensure permit compliance for issued permits
  • Support data request process for CVC data from consultants and others
  • Support creating Data Sharing Agreements
  • Support release of data to consultant once received from technical staff
  • Provide information and advice to watershed residents, general public and prospective property purchasers, developers, etc. regarding various CVC programs, policies and processes affecting planning and development related matters
  • Other duties and projects as appropriate to the position
