About The Position

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join their team. This position involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, aligning, repairing, overhauling, and constructing components, rigging, and recording measurements for the Light Rail Catenary System. The role requires maintaining all records and forms in accordance with regulations and MDOT MTA requirements. The Technician Rail-Catenary Lineman must have experience in electrical, catenary, transmission, or utility linework, and be able to operate special equipment for maintenance and repairs of the Overhead Catenary System. This includes operating bucket trucks, mobile cranes, and platform trucks on both the light rail system and the highway. Various other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalency (GED) certificate.
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal vocational or trade school program; or an apprenticeship program or any other training in the electrical, catenary systems, transmission, or utility line fields.
  • Experience in electrical, catenary, transmission, or utility linework.
  • Ability to understand and operate special equipment to support the maintenance and repairs of the Overhead Catenary System and all of its components.
  • Ability to operate bucket trucks, mobile cranes, and platform trucks on both the light rail system and the highway.
  • Must obtain a Class “A” Restricted CDL License within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Must attach CURRENT driving record (NOT more than 30 days old) to online application.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of experience, in the field, of either electrical, transmission, catenary, utility line tree maintenance, underground electrical, substation, electrical services, or utility line maintenance may be substituted for the formal training requirements.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, align, repair, overhaul, and construct components.
  • Perform rigging and record wire thickness, stagger, and height measurements utilizing electronic recording devices.
  • Maintain the Light Rail Catenary System.
  • Maintain all records and forms in conformance with all regulations and the requirements of the MDOT MTA.
  • Operate special equipment to support the maintenance and repairs of the Overhead Catenary System and all of its components.
  • Operate bucket trucks, mobile cranes, and platform trucks on both the light rail system and the highway.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned.
