About The Position

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The Reed Lab in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University is looking to hire a Technician II. Research in the Reed Lab focuses on the developmental genetics of butterfly wing patterns. The technician would work closely with the PI and graduate students to assist with routine molecular biology work, maintenance of butterfly colonies, and simple tissue dissection and preparation tasks. Laboratory protocols would primarily include RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, embryo injections, preparation of sequencing samples, and preliminary analysis of DNA sequencing results. The technician may also be asked to train and oversee undergraduate lab assistants to help with maintenance of plants and butterfly colonies. This is a full-time position at 97.5% FTE. This is a one-year term appointment that is contingent upon available work, funding, and performance.
