About The Position

Microchip is looking for a Reliability Lab Technician at our Colorado Springs, CO, site to assist with device and package qualification stress evaluations of industrial, automotive, and military semiconductor products -- ensuring performance meets company and industry requirements. The successful reliability lab technician will be vital to maintaining lab operational efficiency and minimizing delays & downtime by timely support of qualification and evaluations. This role bridges hands-on operation of laboratory methods, measurement tools, electronic instruments, and mechanical equipment with self-directed accountability to meticulous documentation, excellent attention to detail, and commitment to quality execution in a high-paced environment. Our ideal candidate is proactive and creative, data-driven and results-oriented, organized and methodical, with good communication skills and strong technical expertise demonstrated by proven quality / reliability experience. Collaboration in our close-knit team of experienced engineering staff will support mentoring and independent growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience performing inspections of products or boards, conducting environmental stresses and evaluations, testing products, and operating measurement tools and electronic equipment in a lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory compliance, and quality monitoring systems is advantageous.
  • U.S. Export Controls Requirements: This job requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States. Candidates are required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications and/or a degree in quality, technology, and electrical or mechanical engineering areas are beneficial.
  • Preference to semiconductor (IC), PCB, electronic and mechanical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Measure dimensions, operate evaluation equipment, and compare results to plan and product specifications for Mil-Std-883 Group B / D stresses and package qualifications.
  • Load and operate environmental stress test machinery and electronics – including interaction with high voltage, high / low temperatures, fluids, gases, and vibration.
  • Monitor qualification and equipment performance with diagnostic tools and data review.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and systems.
  • Read assembly prints, qualification plans, and standards / specifications to understand the requirements of the products and reliability stresses / evaluations.
  • Document results and review failure assessment data, maintain accurate records, and generate detailed summary reports.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize statistical data for improvement purposes.
  • Assist engineers with investigating product stress failures and non-conformance issues, performing evaluations, and troubleshooting / repairing equipment.
  • Ensure safety regulations and industry standards are met to maintain an optimal working environment, with attention to lab hygiene and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in audits to ensure adherence to lab and qualification requirements, industry and company standards, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with reliability, product engineering, test engineering, and quality teams.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks to meet lab goals, project needs, and company requirements, as needed.
