This role involves facilitating international trade and regulatory product testing, with a focus on electrical product safety standards. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years electrical, mechanical and/or hands-on equipment experience
  • Understanding of U.S., Canada & international product safety standards (e.g., ANSI, IES, CIE, NEMA, UL/CSA)
  • A valid driver's license and reliable driving record
  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools
  • Ability to review, understand, and convey technical information in an effective manner
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills, in both verbal and written formats
  • Microsoft Office software expertise, including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Previous Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for engineering staff, including performing duties related to testing.
  • Perform electrical/performance testing on a variety of products to U.S., Canada, and international product safety standards.
  • Write reports and communicate with clients.
  • Read and apply test methods and test specifications provided by engineering for EUT (equipment under test).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing under the scope of the project.
  • Set up and operate EUT (Equipment Under Test); perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including input rating, normal temperature, leakage current, dielectric, grounding impedance, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal, fault assurance, rain, and IP tests.
  • Develop and set up test plans.
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment including spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, and articulated probes.
  • Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring samples are logged into and out of the system.
  • Move equipment as needed through the facility.
  • Properly package samples for shipment.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Perform basic analysis of test data and routine calculations.
  • Perform wiring to identify and connect complex branch circuit connections including single phase, split phase, three phase, Delta and Y Configurations.
  • Make recommendations regarding technical decisions relating to the interpretation and applicability of test standards.
  • Communicate with clients and management.
  • Perform other work as required.
