About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Fiber Optic Assembly Technician Contractor to support the assembly of advanced fiber optic products and prototypes. The technician will be responsible for fiber preparation, ribbonization, stripping, cleaving, mass fusion splicing, connector termination, and inspection of optical assemblies. The role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and experience handling bare optical fibers in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in fiber optic assembly, cable assembly, or optical handling.
• Experience with fiber ribbonizing, stripping, cleaving, and fusion splicing.
• Ability to work with delicate optical fibers and high-density fiber assemblies.
• Familiarity with optical microscopes, inspection tools, and precision hand tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
• Good documentation and record-keeping skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with mass fusion splicers (Sumitomo, Fujikura, AFL, or similar).
• Experience with MPO, or other multi-fiber connector platforms.
• Knowledge of SM fiber, ribbon fiber, and specialty optical fibers.
• Experience supporting prototype builds or R&D environments.
• Understanding of insertion loss testing, ferrule end-face inspection, and optical assembly best practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber preparation activities including coating removal, cleaning, stripping, and cleaving of optical fibers.
• Create and secure fiber ribbons using ribbonization materials and fixtures.
• Execute single-fiber and mass fusion splicing using fusion splicing equipment.
• Inspect fiber end faces, splice quality, and assembly workmanship using optical microscopes and inspection equipment.
• Measure and record splice loss, fiber identification, traceability, and process data.
• Follow established work instructions, process documentation, and quality procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety requirements for handling optical fibers and chemicals.
• Support development builds, prototype assemblies, qualification samples, and manufacturing process improvements.
• Assist engineering teams with process development, fixture validation, troubleshooting, and yield improvement activities.
