About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will use various tools and equipment, including lift trucks and overhead cranes, to disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts and equipment. Responsibilities include performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairing engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. The role also requires reprogramming equipment controllers using instruments and computers.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Four years of work experience.
  • At least two years of experience with CAT equipment.
  • Proficiency in at least two mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, hydraulics) for numerous model lines.
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto and underneath various equipment.
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift or position various parts up to 112 pounds, and use mechanical hoists for heavier parts.
  • Ability to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions.
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced mechanical repairs and assembly on compact construction, aerial and allied equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and use various diagnostic equipment.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts.
  • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, and test parts/equipment.
  • Reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems using computers.
  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment, clean parts, and use test equipment for diagnostic checks.
  • Control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles and to move parts for repair and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Clean and paint vehicles using power washers and spray paint equipment.
  • Reprogram equipment controllers using instruments and computers.
