About The Position

The Fischer Engineering Design Center invites applicants for a full-time Laboratory Technician who, under general supervision, performs a variety of clearly-defined technical functions that support academic projects, academic teaching and research operations in Zachry Labs. Primary areas of focus are/include the Prototyping Center (3D printing, laser cutting, PCB fabrication, foam/composite fabrication) and the Design Studio (Equipment Checkout, space management/organization, oversight of Senior Design teams). Assistance to the Fabrication Shop (manual and CNC equipment, welding) and FEDC Administration (website development, scheduling software, data storage/management) will be as needed. Technician will work as part of a team and their specific area(s) of focus will complement the group expertise. Their roll will be a combination of assisting with tasked duties along with independent duties as experience allows.

Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications for a Technician I: High school Diploma with 2 years of related experience. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum qualifications for a Technician II: High school Diploma and 3 years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must comply with lab safety PPE requirements.

  • Experience creating custom prototypes for complex projects.
  • Experience developing and instruction of training materials/courses.
  • Experience with data collection, retention, and manipulation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and WordPress.
