About The Position

The Grid Systems Hardware (GSH) Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is actively seeking applicants for an electrical technician to help with design and build of electrical/electronic systems. The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of basic electrical wiring, breaker operation, and other electrical equipment installation works.

Requirements

AS in electrical, electronic, mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification in related field.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Experience related to designing and fabricating electrical systems.
Experience related to operating with at least 480 V electrical systems (breakers/fuses).
Experience with use of mechanical tools is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills to support team building and leadership.
A strong commitment to scientific integrity is an important requirement.

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Responsibilities

Follow schematics to do electrical cabling/wiring, operate breakers, and assemble electrical systems.
Use software tools to generate and maintain electrical schematics.
Use hand/power tools in the process of build/assemble of test beds.
