Fiber Technician General Summary: Primary responsibilities include maintenance and repair of a GPON/XGS-PON system. Splicing fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings, reading and maintaining splicing schematics and diagrams, managing outside plant (OSP) activities at and around the assigned work site(s), maintaining accurate splicing and field notes. The majority of tasks occur in the field and may require overtime, including evening and night shifts, weekends, and holidays and on-call rotation. Essential Job Functions: The job functions and responsibilities for a Fiber Technician include: Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair any and all impairments within the fiber network that may be customers. Contribute to design of installation/activation of point to point CWDM, DWDM as needed Splicing fiber optic cables including both loose-tube and ribbon optic cables. Reconstructing splice cases, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing. Maintaining splicing records, schematics and diagrams. Performing work with an OTDR, PON meter, Fiber Scope or any other required test equipment to properly maintain system. Performing work in accordance with industry standards. Reading and following instructions and specifications, managing and maintaining the scope of work on the project, and adherence to safety procedures are required. Preparing field notes, interpreting buried and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field, and recommending changes in running line or construction methodologies. Entering and maintaining outside plant records. Participating in permitting and construction processes to support system maintenance and projects. Complete and maintain accurate records including work orders, daily logs and other necessary paperwork. Clean, maintain assigned equipment and stock assigned vehicle. Assist with installation, service calls and escalations as needed
