About The Position

This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems and related building equipment. The technician will configure and calibrate control systems, interpret technical documentation, and diagnose/resolve mechanical, electrical, and control issues. A key aspect of the role involves performing preventive maintenance, conducting system inspections, and ensuring the proper operation of HVAC and Energy Management Systems. Adherence to safety protocols, including OSHA standards, is paramount. The position requires accurate documentation of work performed, maintenance, and parts usage. The technician will receive instructions from managers and training technicians, support training plans, and communicate effectively with facility operators and partners. This role involves participation in on-call rotations, managing work assignments using digital tools, and completing work orders and expense submissions. Driving a company vehicle to complete service calls within an assigned region is also a responsibility. The technician will coordinate service calls, manage workloads, track inventory, and submit warranty claims. Collaboration with management, co-workers, customers, and business partners is expected, potentially involving work at multiple facilities. Maintaining company vehicles, ensuring their safe operation, and submitting maintenance invoices are also part of the duties. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adherence to company policies and values, including integrity, customer service, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Vocational or Technical HVAC certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC and building controls.
  • Option 1: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, electrical, plumbing, material handling equipment, or related trades; Option 2: 2 years’ store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program
  • Experience using intermediate level functionality of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs HVAC systems, related building equipment, ductwork, and control components.
  • Configures and calibrates direct digital controls, building automation systems, and low-ambient HVAC applications.
  • Interprets layout plans, schematics, and technical documentation for accurate installation and code compliance.
  • Diagnoses and resolves mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues affecting HVAC equipment and facility systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance to extend equipment life and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Conducts system inspections, verifies correct operation of HVAC components, and performs necessary repairs.
  • Ensures the proper operation of HVAC systems and Energy Management Systems through routine checks and repairs.
  • Adheres to OSHA standards, company safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of maintenance, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Ensures the safe operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Receives and follows instructions from managers and training technicians.
  • Supports the implementation of training plans and operational procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with facility operators and partners regarding service needs and status.
  • Participates in on-call rotations (approximately every 4–6 weeks) to respond to operational needs outside standard hours.
  • Manages work assignments using digital tools, scheduling platforms, and documentation systems.
  • Tracks parts, materials, and tool usage to support operational efficiency.
  • Completes work orders, expense submissions, and warranty claims.
  • Drives a company vehicle to complete service calls and support operations within an assigned region.

  • Tracks refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Submits warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders.
  • Completes work assignments and priorities following directions and/or guidance from Manager or Training Technician.

  • Works or trains at multiple facilities or distant locations.
  • Maintains company vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and transports vehicles for required maintenance.
  • Safely operates motor vehicles and ensures that the vehicle has all required documents.
  • Checks fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights.
  • Submits maintenance invoices for payment.
  • Verifies the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance.
  • Wears company uniform and badge in accordance with company policies and procedures.
