About The Position

The Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial settings. This role involves interpreting technical schematics, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Technician leads field teams, mentors colleagues, and coordinates service activities to optimize system performance and reliability. Effective communication with customers and collaboration with management support operational excellence. The position requires adherence to established protocols, proactive maintenance, and the ability to manage workload using digital tools while supporting business-critical needs. The Exterior Services team is committed to maintaining and enhancing Walmart’s outdoor environments through expert landscape maintenance and irrigation repairs. This team manages scheduled projects, ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards, and coordinates resources efficiently to support facility needs. Members collaborate closely with internal and external partners to deliver quality service, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements that promote sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The team fosters professional growth by sharing knowledge and providing guidance, upholding Walmart’s commitment to integrity, operational excellence, and a safe, well-maintained environment for associates and customers.

Requirements

  • Proven experience installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Ability to interpret layout plans, schematics, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols.
  • Skilled in preventive maintenance to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical information clearly to customers and team members.
  • Capability to lead and mentor field teams while adhering to safety and operational procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license with experience operating company vehicles for service calls.
  • Option 1: Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
  • Hold and maintains Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Mechanical license in city and/or state where job is located.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and calibrate HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork and control panels, ensuring compliance with building codes and operational standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration units, walk-ins, and HVAC systems to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
  • Adhere to OSHA and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols during all service activities.
  • Lead and mentor field teams, providing technical guidance and promoting safety practices.
  • Manage service calls, coordinate with external providers, and maintain accurate documentation and inventory.
  • Operate company vehicles safely to complete service assignments within assigned regions.
