About The Position

First Solar reserves the right to offer you a role most applicable to your experience and skillset. This role assists in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment, troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing process and equipment issues, and performs necessary maintenance and repair of equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner. The position also identifies and/or implements system improvements to achieve throughput, yield, and product performance goals, and participates in the training/upskilling of production associates and technicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must meet ONE of the following criteria to qualify: Associates degree in a technical discipline, Two or more years machine or mechanic experience as a primary job function, One year First Solar technical experience, Six months experience as Associate EMT at First Solar and rating of “5” or higher in all relevant EMT proficiency categories.

  • Verifiable electrical/electronic and mechanical knowledge.
  • Verifiable hands-on troubleshooting/repair skills.
  • Self-directed, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment issues on the manufacturing line.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve process issues on the manufacturing line.
  • Ability to deal with administrative as well as technical tasks.
  • Working knowledge of common Windows computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to identify recurring issues and develop/communicate improvement recommendations.
  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs or steps on a frequent basis.
  • Will lift up to 58 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including, but not limited to: steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection & respirators) as a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing process and equipment issues.
  • Performs, as directed, all necessary maintenance and repair of the equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Identifies and/or implements system improvements that contribute to the achievement of throughput, yield and product performance goals.
  • Participates in the training/upskilling of production associates and technicians.
  • Solves day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
  • Performs the on-site service and repair of equipment.
  • Identifies and implements yield and product performance improvements.
  • Accomplishes daily assignments as scheduled and as directed.
  • Develops methods to assign causes to yield excursions.
  • Sets up and maintains gauges.
  • Ensures all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan.
  • Responds to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control.
  • Executes planned process experiments, collects and analyzes data and reports experimental results.
  • Collects data relating to daily tool performance and associated product performance.
  • Transitions new equipment and processes through start-up, qualification, and implementation.
  • Provides training to production associates.
  • Develops and updates internal documentation including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
  • Interfaces with internal associates and supplier representatives, as required, to complete assigned projects.
  • Develops a complete understanding of area processes, equipment, and support systems.
  • Maintains effective communication with other members of the manufacturing team.
  • Disposition non-conforming product according to established criteria (NCP).
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensures waste materials are discarded in their designated containers.
  • Ensures hazardous waste containers stay closed except when adding or removing waste.
  • Ensures satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations.
  • Completes First Solar EMT 1 training program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
