About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking an entry-level Technician to join their Building and Construction team in York, PA. This role is within the Structural Systems Testing department and focuses on providing assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services for the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. The team offers a full suite of capabilities for building products testing, from code compliance to performance testing and product certification, aiming to facilitate market access for their customers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technically competent to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results.
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude.
  • General construction/carpentry knowledge and experience using power tools.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Physical ability to routinely lift 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Good computer skills using Word and Excel.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in a technical field preferred or related experience.
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards and building codes is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance policies and procedures which relate to the control, storage, and disposition of test specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing on decking, railing, fencing, load-bearing and non-load bearing wall panel systems and other innovative products.
  • Take full responsibility for assigned projects.
  • Manage all assigned jobs through Oasis, including job progress, notifications, documentation of test data, reporting, and job closure.
  • Coordinate test schedules with equipment availability and other department testing.
  • Check calibration status of test equipment prior to testing.
  • Analyze test results and write accurate and concise test reports.
  • Communicate with clients regarding test preparation, procedures, and results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
