About The Position

The Tactical Satellite Communications Group is involved in a synergistic combination of research, proof-of-concept test beds, and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity, the robustness to interference, and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites. Current research is concentrating on the design and performance of advanced waveforms, machine learning applied to communications, signal geolocation, Alt-PNT, non-linear operation in saturation, beamforming for novel array types, robust acquisition and tracking techniques, dynamic resource-allocation protocols. Promising research results are verified in hardware/software proof-of-concept implementations that provide quantitative performance data as well as complexity information. The group's system engineering activities apply new concepts and technologies to specific communications programs in the national interest.

Requirements

Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent in applicable experience is the minimum experience requirement.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with electronics test equipment such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, and other equipment to measure electrical performance
Familiarity with writing and/or using software scripts to execute tests and performance measurements
Familiarity or experience with using 3D printing equipment
Ability to generate drawings and/or documentation to document test procedures and configurations
Eagerness to learn highly technical equipment, procedures and techniques.

Responsibilities

Assists in laboratory or research work and operates experimental and technical equipment under the supervision of scientific personnel or technicians of higher grade.
Works for periods of time without supervision.
Integrates prebuilt digital components, RF system components, cabling, and mechanical elements and tests for correct functionality and/or performance based on established test procedures.
Fabricates and assembles electronics and mechanical components from schematics and drawings.
Provides support to organizing and maintaining laboratory spaces and test equipment.
Performs light-to-moderate chassis and equipment lifting up to a maximum of 60 pounds.
Performs occasional travel to field sites.
