About The Position

The Technician A will support the team during the second shift by maintaining diesel equipment operations, completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records. This role involves performing proficient inspection, diagnosis, and moderately complex repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. The Technician A will also provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other maintenance personnel, inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs and/or rebuilds, and assess structural damage to assign needed repairs. Additionally, they will conduct safety checks on trucks, perform maintenance-related work as required, and estimate time and material costs on repairs. Maintaining clear communication with the Lead Mechanic/Foreman and other staff in the maintenance department is crucial. The role also includes keeping shop equipment operating, containing costs by using warranty and evaluating service/parts options, and managing inventory by ordering and verifying receipt of supplies. Keeping job knowledge updated through educational opportunities and reading technical publications is expected. Occasionally, the Technician A may perform service calls for emergency breakdowns and must maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards, performing all work in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in class 8 tractor truck maintenance with background of hydraulics.
  • Proficient in electronic diagnostics Cummins and Paccar.
  • Computer literate.
  • Attention to detail and possess a high level of accuracy.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with dispatch team and auto haulers.
  • Excellent communication skills both internally and with customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Class A CDL license is preferred but not required.
  • Certified welder is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Peterbilt chassis a plus.
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations and safety is helpful.
  • Knowledge of transportation management system, a plus.
  • Microsoft, Outlook and Excel a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Occasionally may perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established procedures.
