About The Position

This Technical Writer position supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the area of Support Services. The mission-critical program provides comprehensive training, safety, standards, curriculum development, and technical modernization services to ensure national border security agents can operate safely and effectively. Complex tactical systems and safety procedures are useless if they cannot be easily understood. In this role, you turn dense, technical engineering language into clear, user-friendly handbooks, standard operating procedures, and training guides that keep teams safe and compliant.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, or a closely related role.
Bachelor's degree in Professional Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
High proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and modern Content Management Systems (CMS).
Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background suitability check.

Responsibilities

Research, write, and format detailed operational guides, user manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Edit, proofread, and storyboard CBT training scripts, lesson guides, and study manuals.
Maintain and distribute templates and style guides, ensuring complete compliance with CBP writing directives.
Maintain highly structured documentation repositories, ensuring rigorous version control and accessibility.
