About The Position

GDIT is seeking a Technical Writer to transform technology into opportunity. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, playing a meaningful part in improving how agencies operate. You will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter by creating and reviewing ITD technical products, preparing and revising technical documents, and writing and editing documentation for hardware and software requirements. You will also standardize documentation by creating and implementing templates, ensure style and format conform to agency publication standards, amend draft tables and graphics, and ensure proper classification markings. You will work with authors to revise products and maintain a document library for ease of storage, retrieval, updates, and review. This position is currently located in Elkridge, MD and will relocate to another site in the National Capital Region in Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience
  • TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Polygraph
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in technical research, writing, and editing
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various word-processing and desktop publishing software applications
  • Knowledge of the organization’s products and services, customer requirements, purpose and structure of required documentation, and end user’s level of understanding
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • US Citizenship Required

  • Desired Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II

Responsibilities

  • Create and review ITD technical products for proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax, as well as for logic, clarity, and consistency.
  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents including software and systems/network engineering, system/network operations, testing, user documentation, etc.
  • Write and edit technical documentation for all the projects hardware and software requirements to include installation, configuration, how-to documentation, and end-user guides.
  • Standardize documentation by creating and implementing templates for all document types.
  • Ensures that style and format conform to agency publication standards and that language presentation is consistent with prescribed style guides and specialized vocabulary of subject matter fields.
  • Amends draft tables, tone boxes, and graphics to ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text.
  • Ensures proper classification markings in accordance with provided guidance.
  • Works with authors to revise products for narrative organization, and negotiates further revisions as needed.
  • Maintain document library to enable ease of document storage, retrieval, updates, and review.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
