About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking an exceptional intern for its Technical Publications Department for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. This program runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027. The intern will create instructional content using DITA XML architecture, focusing on minimalism by incorporating graphics and animations. Responsibilities include creating illustrations, storyboards, and basic animations, as well as participating in user testing and customer feedback sessions to enhance instructional content. The intern will utilize tools such as Windchill content management system, Arbortext Editor, Creo Illustrate, and Adobe Illustrator, while adhering to various Toro Style Guides.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with two years or less left to graduate in Technical Communication, Professional Communication and Emerging Media, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience creating technical instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating graphics for technical instructions.
  • Strong writing, editing, visual storytelling, and graphical skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to start on May 17, 2027, and participate through the duration of the program (August 6, 2027).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with MS software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with markup languages, such as XML or HTML.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.
  • Experience with Maya and Adobe After Effects.
  • Experience creating videos or animations.
  • Interest in mechanical concepts and emerging instructional technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Create instructional content in the DITA XML architecture.
  • Implement the principles of minimalism to reduce words and increase graphics and animations.
  • Create illustrations, storyboards, and basic animations.
  • User test and participate in customer feedback sessions to improve instructional content.
  • Use the Windchill content management system, Arbortext Editor, Creo Illustrate, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Adhere to the Toro Style Guide for Technical Content, the Toro Graphics Style Guide, and the Toro Animations Style Guide.
