About The Position

AttainX is seeking a Technical Writer II to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Critical Infrastructure Collaboration Platform (CICP). This position creates and publishes technical documentation, manuals, and user materials supporting transformation, technology adoption, and service experience. The writer collects and interprets technical information and coordinates document layout and publication for leadership, stakeholders, and end users. This role receives direction in several aspects of the work while gaining exposure to more complex documentation assignments.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of related experience in technical writing, technical documentation, or a comparable role.
  • Experience creating, editing, and publishing technical documentation, manuals, user guides, and training materials.
  • Ability to collect and interpret technical data through interviews, document reviews, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts, engineering updates, and system changes into clear language for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience organizing content, coordinating publication layouts, and using document authoring, editing, and collaboration tools.
  • Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility, plain language principles, and document formatting and branding standards.
  • Familiarity with documentation repositories, version control, review and approval workflows, and maintaining accurate document histories.
  • Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and organizational skills; ability to manage deadlines and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with periodic direction and safeguard sensitive information.
  • Must be a US Citizen, able to obtain and maintain DHS Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree; a degree in technical communication, English, communications, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Federal or DHS/CISA documentation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, maintain, and publish technical documentation and manuals describing CICP applications, processes, features, and system changes.
  • Collect and interpret technical data and information from developers, engineers, analysts, and other subject matter experts; verify content accuracy and resolve documentation gaps.
  • Coordinate document structure, layout, illustrations, tables, screenshots, and publication formats to make technical information clear and usable.
  • Translate technical concepts, engineering updates, and development milestones into concise, accessible executive summaries, weekly reports, and stakeholder communications.
  • Develop user guides, onboarding materials, FAQs, training documentation, and process instructions that support adoption of new technologies and workflows.
  • Document transformation planning, implementation activities, decisions, milestones, and post-implementation reviews; maintain transformation activity logs.
  • Collaborate with technical and service experience teams to document system integrations, interface changes, and effects on user workflows.
  • Apply applicable Federal, DHS, and CISA documentation standards, including Section 508 accessibility, plain language, and agency branding requirements.
  • Maintain version-controlled documentation repositories and revision histories; coordinate review, approval, and publication through established processes.
  • Gather stakeholder feedback, assess content clarity and usability, and make iterative improvements to documentation and training materials.
  • Support reporting on transformation success measures and key performance indicators by documenting approved metrics, results, and lessons learned.
  • Support approved documentation automation and communication workflows, including use of authorized large language model tools; review generated content for accuracy and appropriate handling of information.
  • Coordinate initial drafts and recurring updates with the manager, track assignments and deadlines, and support training delivery and knowledge transfer.
  • Protect sensitive information, including Protected Critical Infrastructure Information (PCII), and confirm appropriate access and release approvals before publication.
