About The Position

Leveraging Ford’s century of manufacturing excellence and world-class battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology, Ford Energy designs, manufactures, and services grid-scale and commercial DC battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ford Energy is uniquely positioned to capture the growing demand for reliable, US-built energy storage systems. In this position, the Technical Documentation Engineer owns the creation, control, and governance of technical quality documentation across the Ford Energy Quality organization. Rigorous documentation is the backbone of audit-readiness, certification maintenance, and organizational knowledge retention — this role ensures that DFMEA/PFMEA records, test reports, RCA documentation, and quality process standards are consistent, traceable, current, and instantly retrievable when needed for an audit, certification review, or internal investigation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience with document control systems and technical writing in a regulated engineering environment.
- Strong attention to detail and process discipline.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with document control in a certified quality management system (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar).
- Familiarity with PLM-integrated document control workflows.
- Experience supporting external audits (customer, regulatory, or certification body) in a documentation-lead capacity.
- Document control software (SharePoint, MasterControl, Windchill DCM)

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation standards and templates for quality processes, test reports, and engineering records.
- Establish document numbering, classification, and metadata conventions to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Partner with engineering and quality teams to standardize templates for DFMEA/PFMEA, test reports, and RCA records and ensure alignment between all documents.
- Manage document control processes, including revision history, approval workflows, and archival, in coordination with the PLM Engineer.
- Administer document review and approval cycles, ensuring appropriate stakeholder sign-off before release.
- Maintain obsolescence/retirement processes for superseded documentation.
