About The Position

As a Technical Trainer, you'll prepare new Assemblers and Wiremen to build switchboards, switchgear, transfer switches, PDUs, RPPs, and future product lines safely and to standard. You'll guide each new operator from their first day to independent work on the production floor. Using approved training materials and Work Instructions, you'll teach in a dedicated training environment, coach operators to competency, and confirm they are ready before they join the line. This is a hands-on role for an experienced electrical and mechanical assembler who enjoys sharing their expertise. As BPP moves into a new line-driven facility, you'll teach standard work and takt expectations at every assembly and wiring station. You'll also serve as the final quality and safety checkpoint before operators begin production work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical assembly of switchboards, switchgear, control panels, or similar equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and teach assembly and wiring work, including enclosure and structure assembly, bus bar installation, device mounting, torque application, wire cutting, crimping and termination, harness build, wire routing, continuity testing, and final QC handoff.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, eDrawings, wiring diagrams, multi-circuit schematics, and BOMs.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and NEC safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with hand, power, torque, crimping, and measurement tools, including multimeters.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a lead or formal trainer in an electrical manufacturing environment.
  • Switchboard or switchgear build experience.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Familiarity with Lean, standard work, or Training Within Industry (TWI).
  • Overhead crane and rigging awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead classroom and hands-on training for new and current operators in mechanical assembly and electrical wiring.
  • Teach with a proven three-step method: explain the task, demonstrate it, then observe and coach the operator performing it.
  • Build operator skills in a safe training area before production exposure, and reinforce PPE, LOTO, and electrical safety in every session.
  • Give specific, real-time feedback and adjust pacing to each learner.
  • Conduct and document competency evaluations at 30, 60, and 90 days using consistent criteria.
  • Release operators for unsupervised work once they demonstrate competency, and set re-evaluation plans when standards are not yet met.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready training records, including attendance, observations, competency results, and release decisions.
  • Create job aids, quick reference guides, and other training content using available AI and instructional design tools.
  • Identify gaps, errors, or safety concerns in training content and Work Instructions, and route them to Engineering and Quality for revision.
  • Learn new and revised content from subject matter experts and Engineering before teaching it.
  • Support operator skill progression and cross-training between assembly and wiring stations.
  • Help develop standard work and training for new line stations and product launches.
