About The Position

King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer to join the Human Resources Department. The Technical Trainer is part of a collaborative and innovative Talent Team responsible for talent acquisition and development at KCLS. As a Technical Trainer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of training professionals, internal subject matter experts, and project sponsors focused on providing responsive training services to all KCLS employees. You will work independently to design, draft, and evaluate instructional content for internal KCLS professional development. You will provide consultation to strategic partners in Human Resources and across KCLS to translate training needs into successful learning experiences. In this dynamic role, you will manage multiple training projects at different stages of course development and delivery, develop e-learning and instructor-led curriculum, teach live courses, and develop multimedia elements, including recording video and audio tracks. You will also provide feedback, user testing, quality assurance, and support for a variety of training activities, services, and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, computer science, graphic design, or adult education.
  • One to three years’ experience implementing a variety of training strategies, including e- learning development, hybrid courses, needs analysis, lesson plans, and meeting and classroom facilitation.
  • Experience developing e-learning solutions with tools such as Articulate Storyline.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning theories.
  • Advanced knowledge of ADDIE model and project management principles, including quality control.
  • Proficiency in software programs including Articulate Storyline, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in training and web conferencing platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Knowledge of basic photography principles.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Skills to manage time and meet deadlines as set by project stakeholders.
  • Skills to work on several projects at the same time while keeping track of progress, challenges, and deadlines.
  • Effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills.
  • Presentation and public speaking skills with groups of all sizes.
  • A valid Washington State driver’s license is required.

  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Association for Talent Development (ATD), and/or related certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple training projects at different stages of course development and delivery

  • Oversees course development, including scoping, analysis, designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and updating content.
  • Creates high quality, technically complex, online learning experiences in collaboration with a variety of departmental and organization-wide stakeholders.
  • Adheres to team quality standards and technical requirements for building learning experiences.
  • Coordinates and facilitates project management activities to ensure timely fulfillment and delivery of content.
  • Writes technical documents and training collateral to support training projects.
  • Conducts training needs analyses and recommends outcomes and evaluation measures.
  • Produces multimedia content including audio, video, and graphic design.
  • Oversees training project management and deliverables.
  • Researches a variety of topics and collaborates with subject matter experts to create lesson plans.
  • Facilitates training in several formats including virtual and classroom environments.
  • Applies a variety of strategies and techniques to promote student engagement and attain learning outcomes.
  • Supports other trainers by producing online events, managing breakout groups, and answering live questions.
  • Participates in continuous feedback loops that support the work of colleagues developing training content.
  • Acts as a secondary trainer or instructional designer to develop small parts of larger projects under the supervision of a colleague or the team manager.
  • Serves as an HR representative in designated work groups and committees.
  • Helps team members test and conduct quality control on training courses and documentation.
  • Manages courses in the Learning Management System (LMS) including creation, enrollment, and running reports on attendance and course completion.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
