About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for a Technical Support Specialist I position within the Office of Public Utilities, Division of Information Systems. This role is based at CWLP ISD in Springfield, Illinois. The primary responsibilities include providing technical support for personal computer hardware and software in both stand-alone and network environments, with a focus on supporting the Office of Public Utilities Commercial Office. The position also involves Help Desk functions, PC hardware and software installation, training PC users, and providing hardware maintenance.

Requirements

Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with courses in computer science and one year experience with PC hardware and computer operating software, or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
A valid Class D driver’s license is also required.
Must pass the required background investigation and sign the departmental confidentiality statement.

Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position to be eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support for personal computer hardware and software in stand-alone and network environments, primarily supporting the office of Public Utilities Commercial Office.
Provide Help Desk functions dependent on Tier I or Tier II support requirements.
Install PC hardware and software.
Train PC users in the use of various software programs and hardware.
Provide hardware maintenance.
