About The Position

Rippling is seeking a Technical Storyteller to articulate the significant technical advancements being made by its product and engineering teams, particularly in the realm of Artificial Intelligence. This position integrates writing, product strategy, technical narrative development, and executive communication. The role involves close collaboration with product and engineering leadership to identify and translate novel, differentiated, or technically impressive aspects of Rippling's work into compelling content for a diverse audience including customers, investors, media, and the wider market. The ideal candidate is not only a skilled writer but also possesses curiosity, technical acumen, and sharp editorial judgment. They should be adept at engaging with engineers and product leaders to uncover compelling stories within complex details and communicate these intricate ideas effectively. This role requires proactively generating ideas, establishing an editorial cadence, shaping narratives, and ensuring Rippling receives recognition for the depth and ambition of its technical endeavors. The Technical Storyteller will partner with the CPO, Product Marketing, engineering leaders, and other executives to pinpoint key stories and ensure Rippling's critical technical work is conveyed with accuracy, credibility, and a distinct perspective. Success hinges on staying informed about company-wide developments, identifying impactful ideas for amplification, building trust with technical teams, and transforming complex work into content that is both insightful and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Technical sophistication to understand the significance of topics like evals, agent harnesses, field clustering, model architecture, or specific infrastructure choices, and to formulate pertinent questions for engineers.
  • Exceptional writing skills capable of clarifying complex technical concepts into concrete, interesting, and accessible narratives without oversimplification.
  • Ability to communicate credibly with engineers and technical leaders, even without a formal engineering background.
  • Strong editorial judgment to discern noteworthy topics, predict external resonance, and extract stories from detailed information.
  • Comfort and capability to operate independently across engineering, product, Product Marketing, and executive teams, actively seeking out content opportunities.
  • High degree of precision in language and a strong understanding of how to accurately represent technical work publicly.
  • Experience in technical journalism, developer or AI content creation, product marketing for highly technical products, or writing for technical executives is ideally possessed.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop compelling external content from Rippling's product and engineering teams, with a focus on AI.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product leads, and the product research team to understand novel, differentiated, or technically impressive aspects of the company's work.
  • Write various forms of content, including blog posts, LinkedIn and X posts, technical explainers, launch materials, and executive/company communications, adopting the voice of senior leaders like the CEO, CPO, and CTO.
  • Partner with Product Marketing to establish a cohesive external narrative around Rippling's ambitious product and engineering initiatives.
  • Proactively build and manage an editorial pipeline by identifying story ideas across product and engineering, defining their angles, and recommending appropriate distribution channels.
  • Assist the CPO and other leaders in preparing for public engagements such as podcasts, speaking events, and interviews.
  • Work with engineers and technical leaders to ensure content accuracy, precision, and credibility before external release.
