About The Position

Fort HealthCare is seeking a Technical Specialist (MLT or MLS) to join their Laboratory team. This role provides technical leadership and oversight for assigned laboratory section(s), serving as a resource for instrumentation, testing, staff training, and competency assessment. The Technical Specialist is responsible for developing, validating, and evaluating laboratory testing procedures to generate accurate and reliable data that support diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease. This role ensures regulatory compliance, quality performance, and operational excellence within their area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • MLT - Associate’s degree required
  • MLS - Bachelor’s degree required
  • ASCP Certified

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical oversight of assigned analyzers and laboratory sections by performing validation and verification studies, monitoring calibration activities, and serving as a resource for troubleshooting instrumentation and testing issues.
  • Manages the quality control program by identifying, resolving, and documenting quality control trends and failures; conducting monthly quality control reviews; comparing results with peer data as appropriate; and submitting required quality documentation and reports to leadership.
  • Oversee analyzer maintenance programs to ensure equipment functionality, reliability, and compliance with manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads the training and development of laboratory staff, including new employee training, ongoing education, and assistance with annual and as-needed competency assessments.
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains laboratory policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Manages inventory and supplies for assigned areas, including reagents, consumables, and other laboratory materials required for testing operations.
  • Performs and documents routine and specialized laboratory testing, including chemical, microscopic, hematologic, serologic, bacteriologic, and immunohematology analyses, according to established procedures.
  • Ensures the accuracy and reliability of test results through assessment of specimen quality, evaluation of clinical information, verification of instrument performance, and monitoring of quality control processes.
  • Monitors laboratory turnaround times using available tracking tools and reports, taking appropriate action to address delays and improve efficiency.
  • Communicates critical laboratory results to appropriate healthcare providers in a timely manner and documents all notifications according to established procedures.
  • Collects patient specimens across all age groups using approved collection techniques and devices when required.
  • Collaborates with members of the medical staff to provide quality patient care.
