About The Position

The Point-of-Care Technical Specialist (POC) is a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and has the responsibility for overseeing the hospital Point of Care Program, chairing of the POC Meeting and meeting the requirements of the Accreditation Canada Diagnostics and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Point-of-Care Technical Specialist will serve as a liaison to the laboratory by interacting with other health care providers. The Point-of-Care Specialist will also support Laboratory Information Specialist (LIS) and will act as a backup LIS Specialist as required. The Point-of-Care Technical Specialist in collaboration with management will form part of the selection team for any capital equipment required when a Point-of-Care request has been approved.

Requirements

  • General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)
  • 3–5 years of related experience
  • Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Experience with Meditech, POCT middleware, Microsoft Office, and document management systems
  • Strong team player with the ability to foster positive working relationships
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Innovative, adaptable, and eager to learn
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work ethic
  • Proven ability to meet attendance expectations in accordance with the Attendance Support Policy
  • Must be able to perform all necessary bona fide duties for the position, as outlined in the position guide.
  • Must review and be capable of performing duties as outlined in the Job Demands Analysis for the position as a condition of offer.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly as per the Attendance Support Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting Laboratory Information Specialist (LIS) and acting as a backup LIS Specialist as required
  • Collaborating with management to form part of the selection team for any capital equipment required when a Point-of-Care request has been approved
  • Supporting safe, accurate, and reliable point-of-care testing across the organization by ensuring all staff performing POC testing are properly trained and proficient in specimen collection, verifying equipment performance to specifications, performing POC tests accurately, identifying and addressing equipment or testing issues early, recognizing and confirming abnormal results, and taking appropriate action and reporting results in accordance with standards
  • Other duties as assigned
