About The Position

Under the umbrella of the library's Support Services division, this employee contributes to daily operations by performing materials receiving and processing of print and nonprint items, and specialized clerical and materials preservation tasks. Previous experience working in library technical services/cataloging preferred. JOB OVERVIEW: As a member of the Library’s program implementation team, under the supervision of the Technical Services manager, this employee contributes to the daily operations of Technical Services by processing print and non-print materials; performing skilled mending of Library materials; and performing other clerical/cataloging tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities for the position.
  • Familiarity with standard software used in business applications such as Microsoft products, especially Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with current Web applications such as search engines, email interfaces, social media, and eBook and eAudio applications/commonly used devices
  • Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community.
  • Skilled in customer service.
  • Ability to work methodically with strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks within established time frame.
  • Ability to work as a team member to accomplish results.
  • A commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively with a diverse patron base.
  • Ability to implement Library Board policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of Library divisions and buildings.
  • Availability for morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and some holiday shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in library technical services/cataloging preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a library cataloging department preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process print and non-print materials in accordance with Library standards and procedures
  • Follow through on procedures for collection evaluation and maintenance; contribute to processing and maintenance of specialty collections
  • Follow through with procedures to facilitate the Library’s interlibrary loan service
  • Mend print and nonprint materials
  • Promote the Library at community events
  • Preserve safety, appearance, and condition of Library facilities and property
