Your Role: Technical Services & Manufacturing Sciences Associate The TS/MS Scientist at the Elanco Technology Center provides critical scientific support for microbial fermentation processes through small-scale modeling and cross-functional collaboration. This role leverages expertise in microbiology, biochemistry, and fermentation development to drive process improvements and support product discovery across a diverse global portfolio. It offers a high-impact opportunity for technical growth while ensuring the robust supply and quality of life-enhancing animal health products.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline
  • A minimum of 1 year of previous laboratory experience (industry or academic research), designing and conducting experiments, preferably in microbiology
  • Inquisitiveness, willingness to learn, problem solving abilities, attention to detail, clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, able to multitask and prioritize activities

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in microbial fermentation using small scale models (Ambr250, and larger bioreactors, microtiter plates), or other relevant microbiology or mammalian cell culture experience
  • Proven aseptic technique and experience with bioanalytical methods
  • Understanding of Microbiology and Molecular Biology principles
  • Demonstrated scientific curiosity and creativity with the ability to adapt or modify existing techniques for novel applications

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, analyze, evaluate and summarize experiments that meet the business objectives using scale-down models of microbial manufacturing processes (Ambr250, shake flasks, microtiter plates, larger scale bioreactors) and biochemical analysis (DNA, Protein, metabolic analysis)
  • Identify process improvement opportunities through data collection, mining, and observation in collaboration with the team
  • Technically lead and manage small scale laboratory projects as required
  • Provide operational support to the pilot plant and laboratory programs as required for team objective delivery
  • Write and present technical summaries in reports and presentations and share at team and department technical meetings and reviews, as well as collaborate technically with scientist and customers in supported manufacturing areas.
