About The Position

The Technical Services Associate position involves working in the Technical Services Section of the Library System. This position performs a variety of detailed and specialized tasks, following Library standards and rules to catalog all library materials in a variety of formats. Must be able to work with minimum supervision and possess critical thinking, attention to detail, good time management skills, and meet goals set by Library Standards.

Requirements

  • Two-year Associates Degree preferred.
  • Two years prior experience working in a library.
  • Two years prior experience with cataloging or inventory control.
  • Four years prior experience working in a library.
  • Four years prior experience with cataloging or inventory control, including original cataloging.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Must be able to keyboard accurately and have a good understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • General knowledge of clerical practices and procedures is necessary.
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed information and to perform routine record keeping and tabulation tasks is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Four-year Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes copy cataloging for the collection by locating matching or existing cataloging records, (bibliographic records), for items in hand, editing the records as necessary, and attaching the local holding information to the bibliographic record for a variety of formats.
  • Retrieves and adds information to an Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Resolves bibliographic errors to ensure holdings and database records meet standards to increase the discoverability of library resources.
  • Maintains authority records and performs needed authority work in the database.
  • Responsible for tracking all orders placed and received, and advising administration of items not received, or received damaged.
  • Receives, signs for, inventories, and unpacks all new items and prepares them for cataloging.
  • Receives donations, searches for potential matches in system, sorts, and prepares donated materials for cataloging.
  • Assists in the processing of library books and other materials.
  • Assists in performing minor repairs on library materials.
  • Completes 40 hours of professional development training per year.
  • In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
  • During an emergency or crisis situation, this position may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated.
  • Processes library books and other materials.
  • Performs minor repairs on library materials.
  • Assists with original cataloging.
  • Performs original cataloging.
  • Responsible for keeping branch flyers current.
  • Plans, markets, and facilitates recreational, educational, and cultural programs at the branch level.
  • Manages additional event programming, as needed.
  • Completes 16 hours of additional professional development per year.
