The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering data center installation and decommission projects on behalf of Sprout's clients. Working within the Service Delivery department, the TPM serves as the primary point of contact between clients, field technicians, and internal stakeholders, ensuring every engagement is executed safely, on schedule, and to the technical standard expected of Sprout. This is a client-facing, technically grounded role that demands equal competence in structured project management methodology and hands-on knowledge of data center infrastructure. Requirements

  • Formal PM certification (PMP, CAPM, PRINCE2, or equivalent) required, or demonstrable equivalent experience managing complex technical projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project schedules, risk registers, and status reports.
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct experience managing or executing data center installation and/or decommission projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full installation lifecycle: site preparation, equipment rack and-stack, cabling, power-up, and handover.
  • Familiarity with decommission workflows including asset tagging, chain-of-custody documentation, data sanitization coordination, and responsible disposition.
  • Working knowledge of standard data center components: servers, storage arrays, networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls), KVM infrastructure, and PDUs/UPS systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret rack elevation diagrams, floor plans, and network topology drawings.
  • Understanding of cabling standards (copper and fiber), power configurations, and cooling considerations relevant to installation projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present confidently to client stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience producing professional project documentation including statements of work, status reports, and closeout packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and field teams alike.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Project for schedule creation and resource planning.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio for producing network diagrams, floor plans, and process flow documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of project or work management platforms (e.g. Monday.com, Asana, or similar) is an advantage.
  • Experience in IT asset disposition (ITAD) or end-of-life hardware management.
  • Background working with or for managed service providers, technology integrators, or field services organisations.
  • Exposure to international project delivery and cross-border logistics coordination.
  • ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management qualification.
  • Must be able to use MS Project.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full project lifecycle for data center installation and decommission engagements, from kick-off through final sign-off.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and resource assignments using MS Project or equivalent tooling.
  • Coordinate site surveys, equipment staging, logistics, and on-site field crews to ensure seamless execution.
  • Track project milestones, flag risks proactively, and drive corrective actions to keep engagements on track.
  • Serve as the primary client contact throughout each project, providing regular status updates, written reports, and executive summaries.
  • Facilitate kick-off meetings, technical reviews, and post-project wash-up sessions with clients and internal teams.
  • Translate technical scope into clear, jargon-free language for non-technical client stakeholders.
  • Manage change requests, escalations, and scope discussions in a professional and timely manner.
  • Apply working knowledge of data center infrastructure – including servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling – to validate scope, flag issues, and guide field teams.
  • Review and contribute to site survey findings, equipment manifests, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure all installations and decommissions meet client specifications and industry best practices.
  • Liaise with client IT teams on network, access, and safety requirements prior to and during site works.
  • Schedule and brief field technicians, coordinators, and subcontractors ahead of each deployment or decommissioning.
  • Act as the single point of escalation for on-site issues during project execution.
  • Support process improvement initiatives within the Service Delivery department.
