About The Position

Corning Incorporated is hiring a Technical Project Manager – Ceramic Materials Development in Corning, NY. This is a full-time onsite role based at Sullivan Park that typically works Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility as needed to support project objectives. Travel is approximately 25% and is primarily domestic to support manufacturing trials and site collaboration, with occasional international travel possible. Within Corning Environmental Technologies Development, you’ll guide and support cross-functional projects that move new ceramic compositions from concept to manufacturing scale-up, partnering with technical and business stakeholders to advance technologies that improve product performance, enable cost reduction, and support key market applications.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Ceramics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a related technical environment.
  • Experience with ceramic materials, composition development, or related materials/process development work.
  • Understanding of ceramic processing such as extrusion, firing, or similar manufacturing methods.
  • Experience leading projects and working across cross-functional technical teams.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and data analysis skills; experience with JMP or similar tools preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting scale-up or technology transfer from development into manufacturing.
  • Background in filtration, catalytic materials, ceramic substrates, or related applications.
  • Experience with DOE, hypothesis testing, structured problem solving, or KT tools.
  • Ability to connect material properties and process changes to product performance.
  • Comfortable working in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Positive, collaborative, and adaptable approach to team-based problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects focused on developing and delivering new ceramic material compositions that meet product and process requirements.
  • Partner with materials and process subject matter experts to evaluate new materials, solve technical problems, and guide development plans.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, scope changes, budgets, and technical updates.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work with development teams, division engineering, manufacturing partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the transfer of technology from early-stage development into scale-up and manufacturing trials.
  • Analyze and interpret technical data to support decisions, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Lead project team and steering team meetings and communicate progress to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Contribute to ideation, technical planning, and future technology roadmaps.
  • Document experiment plans, project learnings, and internal technical reports.
  • Provide day-to-day direction to a technician supporting project and lab-related activities.
