Technical Product Owner, AI-Directed Development

CBT Nuggets•Eugene, OR
•Remote

About The Position

The Technical Product Owner owns the day-to-day health and growth of CBT Nuggets’ website and Assessments platform. The role directs AI coding agents to implement production software and is accountable for what ships, without writing code. It operates with delegated autonomy over task breakdown, agent direction, verification, pull-request maintenance, documentation, and incident investigation. Product scope, trade-offs, risk acceptance, spending, and destructive or irreversible changes remain decisions for the Product Owner group, based on the role’s written recommendations. The role reports to the Learning Content Team Lead for day-to-day work and is accountable to the Product Owner group for shipped work. The three available primary surfaces are Assessments and data; Website, conversion, and copy; and Platform, security, and integrations. Applicants should state their preferred surface. The role is not a hands-on development or people-management position and does not have final decision authority. The products use Next.js, React, Prisma, Postgres, Vercel, a columnar analytics warehouse, and a model gateway. Work proceeds through gated pull requests with mandatory review, committed attestations, and operator documentation. AI agents implement work under written team rules. Success includes shipping changes through the gated workflow, maintaining green and well-supported pull requests, keeping documentation and operating rules accurate, providing concise evidence-based recommendations, and improving the assigned product surface. The hiring process includes specification, review, escalation, and business-conversation exercises. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week salaried position, exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Compensation is $100,000 per year. CBT Nuggets describes the work as remote-friendly, with most of the team working remotely throughout the United States and an office in Eugene, Oregon.

  • Ability to read SQL and code diffs critically, even without authoring code.

  • Critically inspect code diffs and verify agent claims against the system.
  • Operate repositories and related systems, including branch protection, required checks, rebases, attestations, dependency advisories, environment variables, crons, feature flags, and deployments.
  • Update operator documentation in the same change when behavior changes.
  • Turn lessons into dated, durable rules for agents and teammates, and retire stale rules.
  • Investigate production incidents using logs, metrics, and database evidence, and document what happened and how recurrence can be prevented.
  • Measure before making claims, date readings, and record when earlier readings were incorrect.
