Technical Product Manager

Facilities Management Express•Columbus, OH

About The Position

Facilities Management eXpress (FMX) is seeking a Technical Product Manager to build and manage tools that make Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs) and other data-ingestion work faster, less expensive, and more reliable. The role combines product management with hands-on software and tool building, field research, and operational improvement. The initial priority is improving the FCA operation; the broader remit is reducing the cost of bringing customer data into FMX and automating internal work where tools can save meaningful time or money. The position owns assessment cost and cycle time, establishes baseline metrics and targets with Professional Services, and reports on results. The product manager builds, ships, and supports tools spanning field capture, operations tracking, mapping and floor-plan processing, and partner data intake. They spend time on site observing and doing the work, speaking with technicians and facilities staff, and sharing findings with the appropriate product managers. The role also develops repeatable data-intake tooling, improves data completeness and defensibility, and applies AI to practical tasks such as interpreting nameplate photos and floor plans, drafting condition narratives, and identifying data gaps. When internal tooling is appropriate for the FMX product, the role makes the case for transitioning it and supports a successful handoff, including documentation and data-model considerations. FMX is remote-first, and the candidate may be located anywhere in the United States. New hires are expected to work onsite at the Columbus, Ohio office during their first week for onboarding. Travel up to 50% is possible. The position offers a base salary of $100,000–$120,000 plus a company performance bonus, with total on-target earnings up to $132,000.

Requirements

  • A portfolio of shipped work and the ability to explain what was built, what broke, and how it was fixed.
  • Daily use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Claude Code, or Cursor, with working software shipped using them.
  • Enough coding skill to read a stack trace, understand API behavior, work in git, deploy to a platform such as Vercel, and identify when AI-generated output is incorrect.
  • An outcome-driven mindset, with motivation to own and improve metrics such as cost or cycle time.
  • Comfort working in the field, including mechanical rooms, roof hatches, hard hats, and long days walking buildings.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to build trust with both maintenance technicians and facilities directors.
  • Self-direction and the ability to work effectively with limited scaffolding and without a team of engineers waiting on specifications.
  • Alignment with FMX's core pillars: strong work ethic; discipline in processes and responsibilities; coachability and openness to constructive criticism; results orientation and performance; and respect and integrity.
  • No minimum years of experience; recent graduates, career changers, and self-taught builders are welcome.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with facilities, construction, K-12 or higher education operations, field data collection, mapping, or GIS.

Responsibilities

  • Own the cost and cycle time of Facility Condition Assessments; establish baselines for cost per building and square foot, technician hours, days on site, report turnaround, and rework rates; set targets with Professional Services and report results.
  • Identify and address the largest time sinks across FCA scoping, on-site capture, data cleanup, report production, and capital plan population.
  • Build, ship, and support FCA tools, including the capture app and field workflow, operations tracking, mapping and floor-plan pipeline, and partner data intake.
  • Visit job sites and perform the work, interview technicians and facilities staff, and route findings to the appropriate product manager.
  • Reduce the cost of bringing customer data into FMX during onboarding, including equipment lists, floor plans, and unanticipated formats.
  • Build repeatable tooling for data intake instead of relying on bespoke processes.
  • Improve data completeness while increasing the efficiency of data gathering.
  • Use AI to reduce real work, including reading nameplate photos and floor plans, drafting condition narratives, and catching data gaps.
  • Automate internal work when a tool can save meaningful time or money.
  • Make the case for incorporating successful internal tools into the FMX product and hand them off effectively, with documentation and data-model implications addressed.
  • Keep data and assessment work defensible while improving speed.
  • Build reporting that tracks assessment cost and cycle time, and use it to demonstrate measurable operational improvements.
