About The Position

Trail of Bits is seeking a Technical Marketing Manager to manage the day-to-day marketing activities for their AppSec, AI/ML Security, and Research & Engineering practices. This role will collaborate with engineering directors and the go-to-market team to translate security research into effective marketing materials such as blog posts, social campaigns, event presentations, and case studies. The position requires a strong understanding of the AppSec and AI/ML Security ecosystems, knowledge of where these communities engage, and technical fluency to ensure marketing content is accurate and credible. This is a hands-on role involving ownership of social media, events, demand generation, and content production. The successful candidate will coordinate with the Technical Editing team, brief speakers, manage co-marketing efforts, and ensure a strategic plan for content distribution. The role emphasizes proactive execution and data-driven decision-making, with regular reporting to the Head of GTM. The company provides a supportive tech stack, including a Macbook and Claude Code access.

Requirements

  • Marketing experience in AppSec, AI/ML Security, or Research & Engineering.
  • Direct experience marketing or working in AppSec, AI/ML Security, or Research & Engineering, with a strong understanding of the landscape, key players, and technical conversations.
  • Active public presence in security communities, with demonstrated experience engaging on X, LinkedIn, or Bluesky in relevant conversations.
  • Technical writing experience for security audiences, including security blogs, vulnerability research writeups, and tool documentation.
  • Demand generation experience at a security or developer tools company, with a track record of producing measurable pipeline outcomes.
  • Social media management experience as a primary channel in AppSec, AI/ML security, or developer security communities, with ownership of cadence, engagement, and audience growth.
  • Developer-adjacent technical fluency, including experience with GitHub, markdown, and tools like Claude Code.
  • Experience setting up dashboards and reporting cadences that connect security marketing activity to pipeline outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with HubSpot or similar marketing automation, ideally at a security or developer tools company.
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate security content production, research, and campaign execution.

  • Experience with analyst relations (Gartner, Forrester) or industry awards programs.
  • Experience in PR and crisis communications.

Responsibilities

  • Track engineering output, tool releases, research papers, conference talks, and milestones to ensure timely marketing coverage through blog posts, social media, newsletters, etc.
  • Create case studies, briefs, blog drafts, and marketing assets suitable for both technical and business audiences.
  • Partner with the Technical Editing team on content pipelines, especially for report publications and blog production, and provide additional writing support.
  • Own and manage the content calendar across practices, coordinating publishing schedules for consistent coverage.
  • Own social media presence across X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky, maintaining a consistent publishing cadence, engaging with the community, and growing the audience.
  • Manage Trail of Bits' presence at industry events and conferences, including pre-event promotion, on-site coordination, and post-event follow-up.
  • Brief and prepare engineers and leadership before external appearances.
  • Plan and execute multi-channel demand generation campaigns (social, email, webinars, conference activations) to drive pipeline.
  • Collect and package customer proof points such as testimonials, client logos, and case studies.
  • Provide sales enablement support, including collateral, competitive intelligence, and prospect research.
  • Track marketing performance, create reporting cadences, and connect marketing activity to pipeline and revenue outcomes.
  • Own marketing attribution, connecting campaign spend and activity to sourced and influenced pipeline.
  • Gather market intelligence through customer conversations, competitor monitoring, and community engagement to inform service positioning.
  • Monitor shifts in AppSec, AI/ML Security, and R&E, and flag opportunities to the team.
