Our 115,000 colleagues serve people in more than 160 countries. The Technical Manufacturing Chemist I will produce material for use in lateral flow immunology-based chromatography and enzyme tests. This position works out of our Scarborough, ME location in the Infectious Disease, Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Division. Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pipette

  • Gel Electrophoresis or SDS Page
  • ELISA assays

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Skilled in using computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, manufacturing, and word processing software. (AGILE PLM, SAP, JMP, etc.)
  • Experience with handling hazardous chemicals and/or biological samples and understands safety standards and use of CPE/PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and supports the production schedule
  • Investigates problem areas and areas of desirable improvement
  • Undertakes new procedures and observes proper safety precautions
  • Responsible for in-process QC testing of manufacturing material as it relates to qualifications, quality inspections, and titration.
  • Maintains quality systems and proper GMP/GLP
  • Creates and follows protocols designed around product improvement
  • Responsible for making critical and non-critical bioreagents for use in product and manufacturing processes using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Works in a team environment and coordinates manufacturing efforts based upon a set production schedule and maintaining the raw bioreagent supply as needed to support this schedule.
