About The Position

The Technical Manager reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Plant/Site Manager and is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the staff responsible for the setup, maintenance and repair of the thermoforming equipment, and peripheral manufacturing equipment in order to satisfy the production schedule. This role involves carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, monitoring, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The manager will also monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures, supervise and provide guidance to ensure tasks, projects, and deadlines are met, and determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow. Additionally, they will work with direct reports to establish goals and objectives, monitor progress, and enhance professional development.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment serving in progressive roles.
At least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and TMM.
Must be able to read, speak and understand English.
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports.
Must have the ability to comprehend and apply the principles of algebra.
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
High degree of mechanical aptitude required.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.

Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates the day-to-day activities of staff responsible for setup, maintenance, and repair of thermoforming and peripheral manufacturing equipment.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, monitoring, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures.
Supervises and provides guidance to ensure all tasks, projects, and deadlines are met.
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
Works with direct reports to establish goals and objectives and monitors progress for professional development.
Ensures all safety procedures are strictly adhered to, including 'Lock out and tag out' and fall protection.
Manages a staff of Setup Technicians and Setup Mechanics, including those working a 24/7 schedule.
Periodically works a swing shift to develop second shift technical staff and ensure consistency.
Collaborates with the Production Control Manager to develop staffing plans and machinery maintenance/repair schedules.
Assists in the development of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for production equipment.
Develops and administers preventative and predictive maintenance on all manufacturing equipment.
Organizes and maintains maintenance records per Inline Plastics requirements.
Develops and organizes a library of equipment specifications, operating manuals, parts, and maintenance manuals.
Develops staff knowledge and skills to meet productivity objectives and ensure consistency across shifts.
Assists with troubleshooting, machinery, and repair of equipment to minimize downtime.
Performs analysis to benchmark Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborates with Process Engineers to develop and facilitate improvement plans to reduce issues affecting machine run time (e.g., tooling repair, machine repair, cleaning, scrap generation).
Supports the implementation of 6S, SMED, and lean manufacturing principles.
Ensures compliance of employees with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Ensures employees maintain a clutter-free, organized, and safe working environment.
Complies with EHS Policy and applicable regulatory and company EHS rules and requirements.
Promptly reports any unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns.
Resolves potential hazards swiftly.
Attends scheduled EHS trainings.
Actively assists the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals.
Identifies areas for improvement in EHS practices and recommends enhancements.
Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures.
Ensures that all fall protection procedures are strictly adhered to.
Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including enforcement and discipline related to Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.
Follows Product Safety and Quality standards, GMP's regarding food contact packaging, and IPC product defense standards.
Complies with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.
