About The Position

The Technical Lead is a senior, hands-on engineer who delivers production software while increasing the AI-driven development capability of the team’s pod. The role coaches and establishes AI-first development practices, partners with the workstream Product Owner to translate business needs into technical requirements and user stories, and guides team priorities and delivery sequencing. It requires a demonstrable understanding of agentic AI and modern AI engineering, along with credibility in client-facing settings. The Technical Lead collaborates with clients, application developers, users, operational leadership, and subject matter experts to understand operational data analysis goals, recommend technology stacks, and design technical solutions. The role contributes to client demos and technical discussions, maintains engineering quality and architectural coherence as requirements evolve, mentors developers, clears blockers, and participates in sales and consulting pursuits. The position is part of Perficient’s Product Dev team, which delivers application development, cloud migration, integration, and AI-enabled solutions for clients.

Requirements

At least 8 years of hands-on software development experience delivering production applications.
Experience in technology consulting, enterprise and solutions architecture, and architectural frameworks.
Familiarity with .NET, React/Next.js, Azure, and comparable enterprise technologies.
Strong, demonstrable grasp of agentic AI and AI engineering principles, including agents, reusable skills, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, and orchestration.
Experience with complete project life-cycle activities on development and maintenance projects.
Proven technical leadership delivering solutions within defined timeframes.
Experience coaching and mentoring developers and establishing engineering practices and standards.
Experience partnering with Product Owners to shape technical requirements and author user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
Skill building client relationships and participating in practice development activities.
Demonstrated success performing work and managing complex and/or large consulting projects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
Comfort and credibility in client-facing demos, requirement sessions, and technical discussions.
Ability to guide priorities and sequencing across a delivery team as requirements change.
Familiarity with Agile or iterative delivery methods.
Must be open to travel.

Responsibilities

Deliver production-quality software as a hands-on senior developer within an AI pod.
Coach and enforce AI-driven development processes across pod developers, setting standards, reviewing adoption, and improving effective use of AI tooling, agents, and reusable skills.
Partner with the workstream Product Owner to understand technical requirements, generate clear user stories with acceptance criteria, and guide priorities and delivery sequencing.
Apply agentic AI principles, including agent and skill design, prompt engineering, and tool/function orchestration, while keeping humans accountable for decisions and quality.
Serve as a technical point of contact in client-facing settings, including demos, requirement discussions, and technical Q&A.
Maintain engineering quality, architectural coherence, and delivery velocity as requirements evolve.
Identify and clear blockers early, mentor developers, and model the AI-first operating model for the pod.
Work with application developers, users, operational leadership, and subject matter experts to understand current and future operational data analysis goals; recommend technology stacks and help engineering teams migrate toward them.
Collaborate with customer operations and technology leadership on future analytic goals and design technical solutions to meet those goals.
Use analytical, process, and/or technical skills to meet project objectives and deliverables within project scope.
Participate in sales and other pursuits focused on client business needs.
