A Day in the Life As a Technical Lead, Environmental Compliance, you will join our Guelph or Oakville, Ontario office (hybrid) as part of our Alternative Delivery team working closely with the Project Management Office. The compensation range for this role is $122,000-$178,000 annually, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience with a proven track record of integrating environmental requirements into major infrastructure design and construction projects.
  • Proven ability to lead technical strategy on major projects delivered under an alternative delivery model (e.g., P3, DB, Progressive, or similar), ideally across multiple sectors
  • Comprehensive understanding of environmental legislation, permitting requirements, and construction phase compliance requirements
  • A strong communicator and trusted advisor who can engage confidently with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, partners, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A leader who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments.
  • The ability to anticipate risks, solve problems creatively, and positively influence outcomes at both strategic and technical levels.
  • A relationship builder who can develop strong client partnerships and contribute to business development and opportunity pursuits
  • A Valid G class driver’s license is required
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, engineering, or a related field is required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or technical working experience with Ontario Regulations 153/04 and 406/19
  • Knowledge and working experience with regulatory requirements such as the Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, and Environmental Protection Act
  • An understanding and ability to review design and construction drawings
  • Experience working with Metrolinx and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
  • Familiarity or working knowledge of ISO 14001
  • Professional designations such as PMP, EP, P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Biol., RPBio., or similar

Responsibilities

  • Play a senior technical leadership role on some of Ontario’s most complex, high profile infrastructure projects
  • Be the trusted expert who guides owners, partners, and multi-disciplinary teams through complex regulatory, permitting and environmental scopes
  • Lead and mentor a growing team of specialists while elevating technical excellence and building capacity across Canada
  • Lead and provide technical oversight for all environmental components within alternative delivery pursuits and active projects, ensuring contractual requirements are translated into practical strategies and executable plans.
  • Lead development and senior technical review of environmental deliverables (e.g., environmental management plans, discipline-specific technical reports, monitoring reports, etc.) to ensure compliance with project agreements, schedules, and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise design and construction partners on environmental risks, constraints, and mitigation measures.
  • Ensure effective communication and engage with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and project partners, serving as a technical representative on environmental issues throughout the lifecycle of projects.
  • Support major pursuits, including strategy development, proposal preparation, technical methods, and risk registers.
  • Oversee environmental compliance execution, including permitting pathways, regulatory approvals, monitoring programs, inspections, and corrective action processes.
  • Mentor and direct project multi-disciplinary teams and subconsultants, ensuring high-quality deliverables, professional development, and consistent technical practices across projects.
  • Identify risks and opportunities early, providing proactive guidance to project managers and other leaders to support informed, collaborative decision making and successful project delivery.
