About The Position

The Technical Lead, Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3)-US is responsible for all products where the FAA is the approving authority, as well as supporting Part 21 and Part 145 Engineering activities. This role is part of the engineering managerial chain, contributing to plans and organizing activities to achieve overall US Engineering targets. The lead will work with the LH Head of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects to pursue common solutions and processes across programs and utilize a common approach to development and certification/qualification processes. Collaboration with Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Technical Area SMEs is expected to ensure coherent design solutions, methodologies, knowledge sharing, and competency development, contributing to architecture and requirements definition. The position is accountable for FAA certification activities related to Electromagnetic Environmental Effects, working closely with FAA representatives and DERs. Multi-program management is key to leverage resources and competencies, reinforcing industrial performance oversight for the E3 Technical Area within the LHUSC perimeter. The role also involves actively seeking and supporting US business development opportunities, including R&D and new aircraft programs, participating in bid and proposal activities, developing tiltrotor technology and best practices, participating in industry working groups, and advocating for tiltrotors and the AW609.

Requirements

  • Master in Engineering (Ph.D. is considered a plus).
  • Five+ years of experience participating in transport-category certification programs (Part25 or Part29).
  • Five+ years of technical experience and responsibility of teams involved in design, development, test, and analysis of electro-avionics systems in the frame of Electromagnetic Environmental Effect discipline: Intrasystem-EMC, High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Direct and Indirect Effect of Lightning.
  • 1+ years of experience performing Project Management duties.
  • Strong understanding of electro-avionic systems and systems testing to show compliance to system and certification requirements applicable to the E3 Technical Discipline (i.e. 14 CFR 29.1316, 29.1317, 29.1309, 29.1327, 29.1431, 29.610).
  • Understanding and practical experience in environmental qualification practices, software and complex hardware development in accordance with civil qualification standards.
  • Understanding and proven experience in managing suppliers in electro-avionic equipment qualification activities as per RTCA DO-160 (Sections 15-17-18-19-20-21-22-23-25).
  • Understanding and proven experience of compliance demonstration process at Aircraft System Level as per applicable guidance material: SAE ARP5583A (HIRF), SAE ARP60493 (EMC), SAE ARP5415B (IEL).
  • Practical experience with FAA certification processes.
  • Proven experience to create plans, communicate them, and execute them efficiently across a diverse and complex organization. EVMS experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, ability to negotiate win-win solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity, and ability to be a persuasive advocate to internal and external customers.
  • High integrity and technical expertise as necessary to be a primary Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) interface with certification authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure integration, qualification, and certification at the system level. Support design, testing, and analysis necessary to show compliance with certification rules. Serve as manager of integrated system-level activities at AWPC, including conforming test articles, dispositioning findings/QN’s, resolving FAA issue papers, providing field investigation services to define failure modes, releasing test plans/reports, solving problems, and communicating among stakeholders.
  • Define statements of work (SOW’s), develop local technical capabilities, and execute specific design activities including industrialization, customer modifications, and product improvements in full alignment with the Technical Area.
  • Accountable for technical certification activities and demonstrating design compliance of technical solutions to the FAA. Work closely with the FAA and DER in supporting compliance to applicable technical, programmatic, and certification requirements.
  • Jointly support, with LH Heads of Technical Area, the planning and execution of activities for efficient demonstration of compliance of design solutions across product lines.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the local US Team.
  • Manage and develop the US Team, including performance evaluations, supporting career growth and learning objectives, and providing encouragement and guidance for success. Support long-term company objectives with skill forecasting and recruiting to establish a strong technical base for the AW609 program and US-based engineering department.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Technical Area for the SOW of activities to define, working with Engineering Governance, the budget based on activities.
  • Responsible for EVMS plans with certification documents and milestones, identifying certification risks and promoting recovery actions. Responsible for budget development in collaboration with technical areas and for the performance to budget of the local team, including external off-load.
  • Actively seek and support US business development opportunities, including research and development and new aircraft programs and derivatives. Participate in bid and proposal activities. Develop technology and best practices, implement innovative solutions to provide customer value, participate in industry working groups, and serve as an advocate for tiltrotors and AW609.
